HISTORY
Since 2021, the Adams Theater has been in a steady rhythm of renewal, renovating each winter and presenting a full performance season from May through October. What began with 18 performances in our first season has expanded to nearly 50 public performances and events each year, spanning live performance, creative residencies, art exhibitions, and civic gatherings.

This modern chapter builds on a rich legacy. The Adams Theater was originally constructed in 1937 as a movie house to replace the burned-down Atlas Theater, a vaudeville venue that once anchored downtown Adams, Massachusetts. For three decades, the theater served as a cultural gathering place before closing in 1967.
In 2021, Adams Theater LLC purchased the long-vacant 12,443-square-foot building with a vision to restore it into a vibrant, year-round performance space. In 2023, this vision grew under The Adams Theater Presents, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that now leads the theater’s artistic, community, and rental programming, continuing its legacy as both a creative home and a catalyst for revitalization.
