MISSION
To build a sustainable performing arts institution that fosters community engagement through eclectic and inclusive programming.
VISION & PROGRAM
We aim to cultivate a vibrant cultural hub in the Berkshires—where bold, high-caliber performances meet rural access, inclusion, and community revitalization.

-
The Adams Theater Presents Series: From May to October, we showcase eclectic performances across genres—from dance and theater to live music and comedy—inviting rural audiences into boundary-pushing performing arts programs.
-
The Adams Incubator: Our residency program supports independent artists, especially cross-cultural and underrepresented voices, in creating original work. We prioritize community connection through workshops, open rehearsals, and public dialogue.
-
Community Programs: We partner with local organizations to co-create events that uplift our community through education, creativity, and shared celebration. This program strengthens bonds between art and everyday life in Berkshire County.
HISTORY
Since 2021, the Adams Theater has been in a steady rhythm of renewal—renovating each winter and presenting a full performance season from May through October. What began with 18 performances in our first season has expanded to nearly 50 public performances and events each year, spanning live music, dance, theater, comedy, and community programs.

This modern chapter builds on a rich legacy. The Adams Theater was originally constructed in 1937 as a movie house to replace the burned-down Atlas Theater, a vaudeville venue that once anchored downtown Adams, Massachusetts. For three decades, the theater served as a cultural gathering place before closing in 1967.

In 2021, Adams Theater LLC purchased the long-vacant 12,443-square-foot building with a vision to restore it into a vibrant, year-round performance space. In 2023, this vision grew under The Adams Theater Presents, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that now leads the theater’s artistic, community, and rental programming—continuing its legacy as both a creative home and a catalyst for revitalization.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge with gratitude and humility that the Adams Theater stands on the ancestral homelands of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohicans, the Indigenous peoples of this region. After enduring displacement from their homeland, the Tribe continues today as a sovereign nation in Wisconsin. Learn more about the Stockbridge-Munsee Community of Mohicans on their website.
